Update: Some additional photos from our climbing trip on 30th October were also included. Over the weekdays last week I called up the guys so that we could meet for a climb session on Saturday. Through last minute screw ups and circumstances, "we" ended up becoming only Boon & me. When we got there we warmed up and did our climbs. (note to self: muscles have weaken alot. need to reinstill weekly climbing regime) Then I realised I haven't really taken any pictures of the place despite being there so often (in the past at least) So here's a pictoral introduction to the Climbasia rock gym. The place is an 2 storey ex-shophouse converted into a workout centre. After walking in from the main entrance through the back door (confusing?) you'll see the admin office/shop. On the ground level there's a climbing area which is more for the advanced level type people, with its steep slopes and cave-like rock holds that extent to even the ceilings.
Maybe one of these days when I'm free I'll go attend the Sport Climbing Course Level 1 course. Going up the stairs leads to the lounge area on the 2nd floor, equip with kitchen, TV, magazines, cushions, guitar, etc. The rock gym's home to a few cats which were adopted by the owners. I watched 2 of them grow up from kittens into aristocrats. The latest addition to the family is an adorable light-grey cat named Yin. This narrow walkway leads to the toilet and shower room, and also to an open-air balcony for outdoor chilling out.
This area is great for smokers and there's a swing installed too (not all that smokers are natural playground going swingers) Sometimes after some intense rock-gripping all you want to do is find some where to sit down and stone for awhile. Another shot of the lounge area. You can see the 2nd climbing area through the window grille. This area's kinder to the newcomer with its friendly walls that are less angled, ample and well-distributed large rocks. For training and building up strength to take up more challenging obstacles. The climbing session itself was quite OK.. a good wake-up call to start training again. Unfortunately my climbing for the day was abruptly cut short by an unexpected slip off. The adrenaline must have really been pumping when I lost my grip & pummelled to the mat because its only when I looked at my hands that I realise that a Tic-Tac sized piece of skin was dangling from my left ring finger. Its at this point that I became acquainted with OWWWW. The cute cushion in the background was purposely positioned there to help visually lessen the grotesque quality of the picture. |
