Yearning is a black male mongrel in its early years, coat still a healthy sheen of youth, animated on all four paws walking in circles again and again to see his human patron again, again, again! The person in this case a middle-aged man happy after a long day's work at the farms at Chua Chu Kang. Sure, the cotton blue t-shirt and faded jeans are sticky with stale sweat and a stink but what a beautiful crimson sunset, lazy clouds and cool evening air! Tomorrow can only be better. You can't really read emotions from animal's facial expressions but I say with the man half-leaning down, palms outstretched and dancing with the mutt, it reciprocating with a little leap and forepaws like its trying to give high-fives, the bright-eyed perky ears doggy was grinning. And Man enjoyed his little blessings and the joys of creation until I had to spoil everything and arrive standing on the semi-packed bus with a deadpan. His eye caught the transport in time and a hasty flagdown.. Opps, time to go! He turned to give blackie a quick *pat* then walked away to wait for the decelerating machine to make up its mind. It tilted its head slightly in puzzled bemusement, the smile hanging on a little lesser firmly. Then it realises what will happen. Whoo! Take me home! You'll be my very best friend! Nice doggy.. I have to go home ok? You go along and play with your friends. =) I'll behave and be better than any other hound you know! You will find me like 'WOW! What a wonderful whopper!' He pauses long enough to stop the dog in its tracks with a gentle hand on the head, a kind firm look - Through the mute walls of the bus I see his lips form 'NO.' What wha- but but I promise! I'll be good! I won't go and have meals from rubbish anymore and I'll stop eating tasty poop! I'll stop do doggy on all those cute girl poochies! Honest! I won't sleep in your bed when no one's looking! The bus opens its mouth and the man steps in, doors close, and we move along with a satisfied vrooom. I look back with one hand on a railing, curious. The dog stood on the side of the road near the gullies with slumped ears. ... Well, you will be coming back tomorrow right? |
