We finally graduated from our Basic Section Leaders Course (BSLC) today (01st Jun 2005) after 11 weeks of severity and madness at SISPEC Echo Company. We were given our postings today. The majority of us (including me) will be posted out to other units and won't be continuing on for the 2nd part of the advanced course. --- I'm gonna miss the long ferry ride (boats are fun) from Singapore mainland to Tekong, followed by a 3km ride on the tonner to SISPEC. --- I'm gonna miss my bunk. Yah, we complain about it and about having to be there (stuck in camp vs. relaxing at home), some of the cardboards have broken hinges, some of the lights are missing, but after all these weeks, the place has become something a little more to us. It could be Pavlovian conditioning - The bunk is the place we retreat to after a hot day under the sun, after a miserable stay out in the woods with the mosquitoes and the rain. Its where we relax, rest and sleep. You start to associate it with sanctuary and solace. Its almost home already. --- Part of what made the place home-like are its people. The people of Platoon 2 Section 4 (previously known as Section 5) certainly were a great bunch. I'm gonna miss them. --- I will miss sitting around the table complaining about the umpteenth time we have to clean our weapons. About how the SAWs so easily get rusty cause their parts are mostly metal. --- I'm gonna miss hanging around and plain slacking an afternoon away. --- I'm gonna miss the pigging out sessions that we frequently had. I never knew that there were so many types of instant noodles. --- I'm gonna miss the madness and the pranks.
There were many. --- I'm gonna miss suffering with you guys. During the recent Exercise Nutcracker (2 days 3 nights of dig, dig, more digging), I got abrasions so bad that some of those look like stings from some poisonous nautical creature. It rained deluges so heavy on the 2 nights we were digging - In my coldness and fatigue I hallucinated that someone called out to me: Come in from the misery! Come back to the bunk.. Dry towels and warm beds awaits.. Besides, you can relax with a hot shower and jaccuzzi afterwards.Oh yea.. nothing beats the jaccu- Wait. We don't have a jaccuzzi. Its here that I reawake back to reality and the 4am world of mad-dark-cold-wet-shivering. "ffff- fff- ffff- fffugg."You guys suffered the same, if not more. --- Those were hard times, but there were also good. "Happy Hour" night was wonderful, although Joshua and Lionel's singing and dedication of Simple Plan's Perfect to our Platoon Commander Warrant Chia probably wasn't a smart idea. Consequences and reprecussions were many in the days to follow, ouch. Well, all these things are now in the past, time to move on huh? All the best to everyone. |
