Went down to the Mosaic Music Fest @ Esplanade on Thursday (for Ronin & Poptart) and Friday. (for EIC & Rivermaya) RONIN (16-03-2006) As usual, Levan and gang were hard rocking heroes. Heavy music, high-energy stage performance, shiok. They move about so much that I had problems getting good shots. I blame my cheap digicam though. POPTART (16-03-2006) I was full of anticipation AND reservations before this one. I've read and heard some pretty sweet things about Poptart but still had no idea what they are about. Well, I got blown away by their sweet 11pm - 2am set. I couldn't believe the things I seen/saw man. I know its in the interests of both the performers and the audience, but you've got to hate the security & the police details sometimes. If not for them this space would be pretty much filled with the entire crowd that was moving & shaking- .. like this guy in green. Actually he's not just any old guy in a green shirt, but Kings of Convenience's Erlend. He jumped right on the stage and boogey'ed, and almost got dragged off by some really fierce looking guards. To be honest, I know nuts about the band, haven't listened to them before. I thought he was the Napoleon Dynamite dude at first. EIC (17-03-2006) The next day I showed up at Esplanade again. Once again I was listening to another group for the first time - EIC. I wasn't really expecting much actually.. so as to avoid disappointment. Boy was I ever wrong. Rai either was trying to stir up some naughty laughs or create a 'mood', when he gave the crowd a knowing wink every now and then and croons "we all need some *pause for effect* sexual *pause for effect again* healin' " before they launched into a rendering of Maroon 5's Sunday Morning. This of course gave hosts Vivian and Annabel Francis alot of ammo to pun on when they came on set after EIC's set ended. Let me summarise the 2 days into 3 words - It was splendid. I hope to catch The Suns' set tonight, unless of course, if army life interferes. |
