Note: Except for spelling corrections I'll try to paraphrase what I said to my friends on IRC/MSN.. it captures my mood better. I went down to Suntec today because Channel U's jue(2) dui(4) Superband held a "concert" at the fountain of wealth. No, I'm not rooting for any of the groups, I think the whole thing is an exercise towards fultility in any case. I went there for my church friend who happens to be a member in one of them. Its not due to church or friendship ties lah.. He's really talented. The moment I got there I almost instanteously regretted. Hell. Swarms of screaming mandopop girls. Big cheesy signboards with gaudy colours. Whistles. Party noise makers. Screaming, oh yah the screaming. They scream for every single damn friggin' thing. Screams that can kill mosquitoes in flight. The hosts pop out on stage, they scream. The band members show up, they scream. Prerecorded footage of the dudes shown on screen? They scream. I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream. In the midst of my pitch-induced migraine I begin to think that even if one of the performers did something outrageous, like maybe dig their nose or streak, people would also scream and happily wave those retarded banners. Sheesh. And the best part. Nobody moshed. Nobody danced. Or bodysurfing. Or grooved. Or nod a head or twiddle a pinky or anything. All these teeny gals just gawked with mouths half open at the people on stage performing, and the instant they're done they scream their tonsils out. Eh. The performers, are, h u m a n b e i n g s . Normal, breathes air. Eat, shit, sleep, walk, talk like you all me. They don't feed off your hollering to morph into some ultra musical god. Just last week I even went with one of them to a hawker centre. We drank teh peng. I'm not against the bands, they are great. But please lah people. Appreciate them, not worship them. All you chinese singaporeans.. bah. (but I am also one.. aaarh.) I endured till my friend's band performed their one single song. Boy, did the guy rock out or what.. powerrr. I flashed a defiant hand gesture of a rock salute above all the sheep groupies, high and mighty, before making quick exit scooting off for elsewhere. --- OK, I'm done with my venting. To Edd'n'Kaori, Clement, Jason, Japheth, Jing Rong, Jie Qi, Lay Hoon and Raymond&G/F - It was great to see you guys there. Hope you had a good time! |
