Their work's entitled "Check", playing upon the chess term. Its a documentary about some of the issues of daily life. Of course, the exhibition wasn't just about this single piece. Jason brought me around the campus visiting the different booths and displays, me uttering "ooh"s and "aah"s at suitable moments. Just by the viewing the numerous media employed for every single booth, I can hardly imagine the labour and time taken. So while we look-look-see-see, I recalled that another friend of mine happens to study at NAFA. Casually I asked if he knows someone named June. And by chance we were standing right in front of their display area. Concidence siah! For my third wish I would like to have a million dollars. ... ... Bah. It was really great to see June after all these years.. chatted abit. She mentioned that another friend of ours also had her work displayed at the moment.
Wei Lin's work is a installation featuring video & sound. Part of the clip showed what seemed to be chocolate dribbling viscidly from a pair of luscious lips. The liquid lingers.. slowly my eyes entranced. Then the upper lip inched for the escaping choco and sipped it back in. Slowly. Gulp. DAMN I HAVE GOT TO BUY MYSELF SOME RICH DARK CHOCOLATE CAKE SOON. This was another piece that we came across. I'm not too sure if I'm intrepreting it right, but the moment I stepped into the area my first thoughts were "that scene in American Beauty where Kevin Spacey's character fantasises about the lolita girl". I could be wrong of course. But damn.. you had to be there. The writing on the bedstand and the table. I blushed like a shy 5 year old.
I intended to enjoy the exhibition along with showing some support for a friend. Didn't expect to have had so much fun. Maybe future gallery visits are in order. |
