To paraphrase how Joe Ng introduces songs - A beautiful night of beautiful songs and beautiful moments.. just beautiful everything. Had a great night of music with the best of company yesterday. Went down with Cecilia & Sham to timbre (later joined by Cher Hoe) for yet another monthly episode of OpenStage. The featured bands this time around were Elise, Embryo, Typewriter and Localbarboy. The entire show was serious, solemn, hyper, tipsy and crazy at different parts, in a good way of course. Elise's brand of music was good, most definitely. But somehow I didn't feel right listening to them at the time.. Its just a personal thing of mine that I can't really enjoy instrumental music when I'm outside. I just feel its more appropriate for quiet home moments of reading or studying. No offence really, my 2 cents.. Somewhere during the night I got acquainted with Chloe and her photo project. Meet ShinyHappyPeople. For more photos of wide-grinning cross-eyed faces, go see www.flickr.com/photos/shinyhappypeople ! Typewriter's set astonished me and I was very impressed. After my first proper listening of their material, my opinion now is the their album-in-progress is the next big local indie thing to look out for. Them Typewriters really rocked hard for their set. Localbarboy played at their chirpy carefree beer-induced best as usual. This set was made especially special when Tiramisu's Rizman just happened to be passing by and got dragged up by Joe to join in their cover of 'Dewa'. Beautiful song, memorable moment, just my luck that of all times for my camera's battery to run flat it happened right then. After OpenStage we headed over to HOME for Poptarts where we met up with Mark. wee.like.me, jah, and zaidi failed us not and last night the DJs saved our indie lives. Someone got a little high overdoing the smoke machine though.. most of the shots came out ugh. One picture did shine through though. This is the one that speaks a thousand words and captures how we felt: One hellava' rocked out night. I made a gallery of the shots taken, click on the pictures other than the shinyhappypeople ones to view it :) |
