One intensive weekend, running here and there, jumping around. Its tiring, definitely, but having a whale of a time so far. Baybeats has been good so far. On Day 1 I watched Great Spy Experiment, Ferns, Tiramisu, Love Me Butch & Poptart but missed out on quite a few great bands. Especially enjoyed the LMB set, jumped right into the moshpit and lost myself in the voices, moshing, music, sweat and the moment. Screamed my lungs out and then when I ran out of breath I jumped right out above the waves of heads and surfed. Poptart was good as usual, and I even met someone with the same "Girl From Katong" shirt as me. Good to meet a fellow Seranaide fan, cheers Khairi. It was a riot demonstration jamboree at the outdoor ampetheatre between 11:30 till 2am. I fought the law (and the law won). Well, not so dramatic lah, I just ran up the stage couple of times during a really good track and danced until the security gestapo almost dragged me off. Bah spoilsports. ... What? The guy didn't want to dance when I approached him anyways. --- The earlier part of the second night was spent with Peepshow at their gig over @ Marine Cove. Good set, with great sound set up by Mikeman Studio's Mike himself. Boon got to try out his new 6-string bass, and behind that cool Blues Brudder exterior, I can tell you he was practically peeing his pants in sheer excitement. Hung around till about 8:45pm then rushed off- not to Baybeats but to Arts House Earshot, where LocalBarBoy was playing, missed Lilac Saints who played before them. Its worth it lah.. for some madcap local music DIY KTVing. And Chloe, I'm so sorry for misspelling your name <;D Then I rushed over to Baybeats. What can I say? Plainsunset was simply superb. Sunset fans turned up in full force, and there was moshing/dancing/surfing throughout the set. On the OUTSIDE of the barricaded front area! The enthusiasm was unbelievable, the feeling of singing along to Plainsunset anthems along with dozen other strangers who know word for word is an indescribable joy. Scooted over for Angelas Dish at the Chillout Stage after that, and back to the Arena area, where to my surprise I saw my old primary school friend Huimin. :D -- Day 3 was ended Baybeats '06 with a flourish and bang. Page played a slick set, and Concave Scream delivered the pensive good despite lead vocals Sean's protests of "Eh sorry ah.. tiring day at work yesterday.." Electrico wowed the crowds again with their good-to-groove sounds from the new album, Lunarin & Astreal showed why they are local indie rocking pillars with back-to-back great sets. Overall it was a great night, and Day 3 seemed almost allocated to be the day for showcasing the local greats. Overall, I'm can't really say I'm too happy with how most of the shots turned out over the 3 days. Although the limitations of the digicam I'm using really becomes painfully obvious under poor shooting conditions, I'm wondering whether part of the fault lies with my technique. (or lack of) Memories-wise though, I have all these great archives in my head. The people, the music, the sweaty red-heat involvement. Gallery's up.. Click on the pix above to go see. |
