* = highlights of the day
Saturday 24th Oct 12pm Went to NP for gym with Boon. Left at around 1+. 5:45pm Left for the Esplanade for the Made In Singapore gig. * 6++pm Reached the Esplanade Outdoor Arena just in time for Parking Lot Pimp's (former Urban Xchange) set. DAMN they were good. They really heated up the stage with their energetic rock/rap/punk performance. The band also had a reckless air & an in-your-face attitude about them. "... We were previously this band making pop music. Now we're trying out different stuff & more funky music. We have an upcoming album, it will probably be out by February. I dunno how many deadlines we have broke already.. I think our record company's gonna kick us out it we break this one *uneasy laugh*"They were right about the funky bit. I think they got tired of being kept in a mold, & now that they burst out with a new name (hence Parking Lot Pimp), lyrics, style, they are now busy trying to enjoy being musicians. Life may not taste so good nowadays, but at least they are bringing out their real standard now. >:] After PLP, Electrico was up. And I thought they were an electronica band! We (Boon,Jamie,Edmund,me) went for dinner & only came back towards the end of their set. Electrico was also great, ending with an encore of their track "I Want You". They were very professional. When they experienced "technical difficulties" (guitar string broke), Desmond (Electrico's bassist) came up & did an imprompto bit for entertainment: At which point David (lead singer) came back on stage & said "and that is our upcoming single - "I Think I Run Out Of Bloody Ideas". BWAHA! * 9pm++ After that was the Universal Blues band (ublues) i was expecting slow, laidback, melancholic stuff. Way off the mark! It was a night to remember. Trevor (smooth lead singer with cap), Danny (keyboard/guitar), Francis (aka "Jeiel", "Give it up for the PANTS!") & Gary (drums) brought the place down with a tempo-charged performance. They even got some of their friends to dance at the side of the arena, & at one point, a couple on stage doing a sizzling number ("We think that this will help solve the dropping birth rate problem in Singapore." *evil grins*) We had such a good evening that we planned to come again on Sunday. 10pm Boon & I left for Orchard MRT Station to meet up with Jason @ 10:15pm. The original plan was that he was to help us take photos of us doing PKing about town. It was raining, & Jason was still @ home. ("had to get my cam.") We had no choice but to cancel. Went for Coffee Bean instead & then to my house for Maggi Chicken/Abalone Porridge. 1am Was supposed to go with Boon to Edmund's house @ 2am. I totally knocked out & sucuumbed to slumber. (Apologies to Boon&Edmund) Sunday 25th Oct 3:30pm Phone rang while I was eating lunch. it was Boon. "Eh Tom, Delon & I are in his car now. You want us to come & pick you up anot. "Sweeet. 4pm Delon's car reached my place. * 4:15pm I rushed down after shower/wear clothes ("WTF.. HOW COME NONE OF MY SHIRTS ARE IRONED!!!") Delon drove us to Woodlands to pick up Jamie. Man did he screw up along the way! 1. Delon: How to get to Woodlands ah? Me: CTE loh. *Drives onto CTE* ME: Eh Delon, you are on the CTE... in wrong direction lah! 2. After a arduous journey, (Delon: ARGH! F' Woodlands! F' Tom!) we finally reached Woodlands Central.. only for Delon to drive on bus lane into the underground interchange. (Me: WTF you doing! I shut up for 5 seconds only then you happily go & try drive through the interchange ah!) Finally picked up Jamie & left for the Esplanade. Jamie could hardly control her * 5:30+-9pm+ Reached Esplanade.. too late for the Swim Shady set. OPPS. Listened to TicTacTone, & then UBLUES!!! Too bad it rained after that, Electrico's set got cancelled! We had no choice but went to sit at Suntec's Coffee Bean to chill out instead. I think Jamie's blog entry is more detailed. 10pm Went back to Boon's place, sat around awhile then left for a coffeeshop @ Potong Pasir which had cable TV. Objective: Manchester United vs. Arsenal match @ 11pm. * 11:20pm Arrived @ to a crowded place packed with soccer fans/punters in front of the small TV set. Reminded me of one of those historical photos of people in the 1960s gathered around a single black&white TV @ Community Centres. The game had already started for about 16 minutes. For the next 84++ minutes, Boon & I sat glued to the screen. A heart-stopping penalty goal by van Nistelrooy at the 73th minute (Me: "If Man U wins only by a penalty, it won't really be a total victory") was followed by Alan Smith's passing to Rooney, who scored at the 90th minute & clenched the game for Man Utd. It was a sweet match, one to remember for a long time. --- And today, I am supposed to get back to German/Italian Unification history revision. Eh boy! Fun's over. Go back to work. |
