 You tend to get jaded as you grow older but for the first time since I took off the trainer wheels off the bike and tried to balance myself, (1994?) that incredible sense of marvel and wonder has enchanted me again and got me hooked on mastering how to rollerblade.Hurray for me, horror and destruction for the free world. The whole episode today started many weeks back. Idling away the hours in camp, James and me chatted about new stuff we'd love to learn. I mentioned my interest in blading , which never amounted to much; its risky putting down good money getting an expensive new pair if I end up disliking the hobby. "Hmm. Hey I've got an old pair at home, I can lend them to you if you're interested you know."We worked out a deal where I'd have a grace "sampling" period, after which if I'm still keen I can buy it. I guess animals do have an acute sense for incoming calamity cos' you should see their eyes get all wide and startled when I'm not even within 50m of them. But then again, from their perspective it must have felt like standing in the way of Godzilla as he came lumbering down the streets of cinematic New York. No wait, make that a jittery wobbling klutz coming in head on arms flailing and waving frantically. You know, a truck driver whose brakes gone out, horning and flaring his lights like mad warning everyone ahead? That sort of urgency. Whoa. Whooo- MOVEMOVEMOVEMOVE GET LOST GET THE F- WAAAH!Next to me, Godzilla's like a ballerina dancing the Nutcracker. It would been hilarious to behold but when you're a cat and this helpless human tsuinami comes crashing headlong, its a better idea to get out of the way fast. Not on purpose, sorry kitties. BOOOOM.The black night sky is Full of stars, spinning. My head Hurts, need doctor NOW. The soundtrack for suicidal self-taught blading must be blues rock, cos' the first thing I heard after my head cleared up was my brother playing the acoustic guitar. I laid on the hard ground and enjoyed the moment, the chilly midnight breeze and soothing blues, and also because my head and ass hurt too much to get up at the time. I stared up at the black dark sky of stars and wondered if my ego was more bruised than my flesh. Suddenly the strumming stopped and my brother's head popped into view. He helped me up and we went to 7 Eleven for makan. Next weekend I'll be doing this again! |
